Learning English
My native language is English - Australian English. Our language is more closely aligned to British English than American English. Just as any language has its dialects, and differences so does English.
I have a degree (Ba of Adult and Vocational Teaching) from Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia and I majored in Literacy and Numeracy, and I have TESOL qualifications. I have taught in China, Brisbane and in South Korea.
I have been a writer (mainly for the internet, but there are some small works of mine published) for many years, and a teacher trainer for more years that I'd like to admit!
When I was involved in training long term unemployed people in Australia, one thing that was obvious, was that many had problems expressing themselves well in English. Perhaps that was due to poor schooling, lack of schooling, or other factors, but as an adult in the workforce it was essential to be able to read, and read quite well. With a focus on Workplace Health and Safety, there are many things that a worker has to read and understand, so English language skills are important, and I spent much time working with students to help them improve their English skills. When I completed my university studies at Griffith University, my major was Literacy and Numeracy. I had a great love of travel and learned that there were places around the world where I could teach English.
My first teaching post was in Shaoxing, China.
As well as classroom teaching, I've worked with students in a small group (often in my apartment) and I've even worked with students on-line, which I will do from July 2010.
I hope that with this site I can help more students of English. You are invited to make contact with me via the form below, or if you would like your own English Tutor - click here for more information.
